When I was a little girl the safest place I knew was found in the strong arms of my Daddy! I loved to sit beside him, walk beside him, nap beside him and crawl up in his lap to be held. There was no place like daddy’s arms!
Once while out looking for a Christmas tree with my daddy I became a bit frightened and went to wrap my little arms around his leg to hold tight to my safe place. While clinging tightly to my life-line I was startled to look and see my daddy standing 5 feet from me! I looked up and I was not clinging to my daddy’s leg at all! Just someone of similar size with similar pants. Being tiny and not looking up to identify who I was clinging to before I latched on left me in a vulnerable and scary place!
Cute when I look back on it but I can see myself in that little girl right now.
- Sometime, I reach for my safe place and mistakenly cling to the wrong thing or person.
- Sometime, I hear something that makes me feel good and I mistake it for the truth.
- Sometime, I’m just busy enough to be distracted and perceive something as truth when it is the opposite.
It’s easy to be deceived. No one tried to deceive me that day at the tree farm. I doubt that situation occurs again. I’m a bit big to be running to my daddy’s legs. However, I do have a safe place. I love to rest safety in the arms of my Father!
But girls, there is someone who wants to keep us from His arms.
Satan wants to manipulate our minds by distorting what we see and hear so that we cling to something that appears safe but truly is dangerous.
Satan is lurking.
Satan is ready to deceive.
He is looking for girls who love Jesus and He wants to tempt us with falsehood.
He wants our eyes fixed just a little far away from the face of God so that we are ready to accept things that are almost truth but are in fact lies! Fallacy!
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
Just as He twisted the Word and tried to draw Jesus away from the Father he wants to do the very same to us (Matthew 4:1-11). Satan is prepared to pounce! Be alert.
- Alert to what the truth of the Word promises.
- Alert to what the truth of the Word proclaims.
- Alert to those wanting to deceive your heart.
If you hear something that sounds familiar but just doesn’t feel consistent with what you know to be true, LOOK UP! Confirm it in the Bible. The truth can be identified in His Word.
Find your safe place in the arms of The Father!
