Every Friday from now until Christmas we will share one gift that can be given freely without a purchase and one that you can purchase. It’s all part of our Gifts of Friendship series inspired by studying The Friends of Jesus by Karen Kingsbury. Each gift we share will be presented in hopes that others will see and feel the love of Christ!
A friendship gift given freely:
Many gifts can be given freely and while a trip to the store may not be needed and wrapping paper is not necessary the value of these gifts far outweigh presents that require tissue paper!
This weeks gift is comfort.
As I sit to type this I know of multiple families grieving the loss of loved ones. A close friend will celebrate Christmas this year without her young sister that was tragically killed five days before Christmas just last year. It’s the beginning of “firsts” without her. She’s not alone.
Grief seems to multiply during the holiday season.
2 Corinthians 1:3 proclaims that our Father God is the God of all comfort. I’ve watched this family grieve and I’ve watched them hold hands with the grieving. The truth of the scriptures proclaim that we can share comfort because we ourselves have received comfort.
“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
2 Cor. 1:4
The best way I know to be of comfort to someone is to first pray for them and then be present.
- Sit quietly when they need you near.
- Send cards, make phone calls.
- Just hold someone and let them know they are not alone.
- Cry when they cry and laugh when they laugh.
Simple offer the gift of comfort.
Our pick for a purchased gift that shares Christ this week:
A 4 Fosters Candle! (Click the photo below to link to their website)
4 Fosters Candle Co. Is family owned and operated and each candle they sell is hand poured by the Foster family from Youngsville, NC. The scents are divine and the colors are beautiful but the greatest detail is the scripture found on each candle. The Foster family is devoted to sharing the light of Christ. It’s a gift sure to make your friends and family smile.

Nicole Manigault: I love anything vanilla! Reminds me of my mother. I love to do homemade gifts at Christmas because our family is very craft-oriented.
I’m a vanilla girl too! I always set out to do handmade gifts and as good as I get done are cookies! That counts, right? One smells good too!
Nicole you are this Friday’s winner! We will be in touch to get your shipping details!
I love anything cinnamon and I love giving candles to my friends!
I love smells of cookies! I love spending time… The gift of time together for holidays
One of my favorite Christmas scents is peppermint, it is just a relaxing clean scent to me. My favorite thing about Christmas is the giving of gifts and the quality time some of us get with our families. Families do not have to be blood but may be spiritual families also. And sometimes that is better.
Beautifully said Mary Beth!
Ruth Wages Newsome: Giving my niece a box of chocolate.it has a special meaning to us.
Angie Gregory-Brown: I love giving homemade goodies away–whether food or something I’ve made or a poem I’ve written. Handmade gifts are the best!
