It’s been sometime since we’ve taken a walk together.

Today was that day. I grabbed His hand somewhere in the middle of my walk and I didn’t let go. Holding on to the strong hand of our loving and caring God is a place where we can find strength and courage. He’s present and ready to hold us by the hand.

23The Lord directs the steps of the godly.

He delights in every detail of their lives.

24Though they stumble, they will never fall,

for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24

Winter can be a dry and weary time. And not just outside. That cold can creep into our hearts when night falls early and the trees rattle silent from their barren state. The last two weeks the winter coldness has been creeping in under the doorframe of my heart. Fortunately, I’ve been alert and on guard. I know how easily it can be to slip into that weary place that first starts as feeling blue and then renders itself to desolate.

Today, I grabbed his hand somewhere in the middle of my walk. I needed His strength. Have you been there?

As I walked down the cold sidewalk I sang a song, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength….”. I’m so thankful for music that creeps right into my mind and settles into my heart, especially the one’s that echo the scriptures so beautifully.

Repeatedly. “Love the Lord your God”

Thoughtfully. “With all you heart”

Then I noticed His presence. I noticed. I felt His outstretched hand.

It was the clouds that covered just part of the sky. I could see them moving. He’s always near. His power is always present. And then I wondered about all the things He places before us, around us, and how I am only limited by myself.

I am only limited by my own inability to see His ability! For he has never asked me to do anything without Him. And with him all things are possible (Phil. 4:13, Mark 9:23)!

I grabbed that hand and I didn’t let go!

I made the turn home and He went with me, filling my heart and my mind with each step!

Just the little things were whispers of love and presence.

The hundreds of birds flying overhead. The light breaking through the trees.

Has winter set into your heart? Are you feeling the cold creep in under the doorframe of your heart? Are you longing for a hand to take hold of? Do you feel alone?

Today before my walk I went to a familiar passage of scripture that has been a source of courage and motivation for me over the last 5 years. Hebrews 12:1-2.

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

And I took time to remember:

  • We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses! We are not alone! They are cheering us on, listen to the roar of their voices as you read what they did by faith in Hebrews 11.
  • Throw off what hinders! Perhaps it is the inability to see His ability…throw off that doubt. Trust in Him and not in yourself.
  • Step away from sin and into forgiveness and grace. Grasp His hand with certainty!
  • Run, press forward, with the strength that comes from holding His hand.
  • Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Keep your heart focused on Jesus. Focus on His ability and not your own. This is where courage develops!

If it has been sometime since you took a walk with Jesus lift up your hand and grasp the One reaching down for you. Trust Him to fill the voids, to warm the cold, to be your strength! Grab hold of His hand and don’t let go!

Let’s be unhindered together,

Jodie
