So, I have become somewhat familiar with women. I minister to women, I live with some girls who will one day be women, and I am a woman myself.
One thing I have learned is that we do NOT like when people step on our toes and tell us that we are doing something wrong. Too bad, ladies, today I will not make you happy.
See, one of the ways that we are different from guys is that when we talk we just want someone to listen. We don’t want that person to fix anything for the most part, we just feel the need to be heard. Yet, when it is our turn to listen – we completely and utterly mess it up!
I heard a pastor pose this question one time:
Why is it that we are quiet and still when we talk to God? Yet when scripture is being read aloud, we move about and fidget? Don’t you think it would make more sense to listen when God is speaking to us? Hmmm….
Here is what scripture has to say about NOT talking and being a better listener:
Come, my children, LISTEN to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psalm 34:11
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to LISTEN, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20
In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. Proverbs 10:19
Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them. Proverbs 29:20
To answer before LISTENING—
that is folly and shame. Proverbs 18:13
Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues. Proverbs 17:28
Fools do not want to understand anything.
They only want to tell others what they think. Proverbs 18:2
See, what I have learned about women is that we can change. We can change for the better or we can change for the worse.
We need other women to come alongside of us and teach us and show us how to be Godly women. We need to stop “fighting” with each other with our words and take time to listen…because we all just want to be heard sometime in our life. We need to build the church up by doing what God’s word says, instead of breaking it down one syllable at a time. We need to be wise and stop acting like fools. We need to start with the reflection in the mirror.
Let’s give ’em something to talk about..or not.
