“In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.” John 1:4
Several years ago my family moved into a house situated on a corner lot, the yard is nice sized with two large beautiful pine trees that provide wonderful shade during the summer months. Squirrels run amok all through the branches and countless birds have sought refuge to nest in them when they need a place to birth their young. They really are nice trees!
But, there is one problem, we have NO grass!
All around our house is dirt!
Lifeless, brown, barren dirt makes for a muddy mess during the winter and a dusty house in the summer. For so many years I have dreamed of spring projects that would bring life to this yard!
I just haven’t gotten there yet.
The biggest problem is; my yard is needs light!
Those huge pine trees block out the much-needed sunlight!
When I look at my yard I am reminded that this yard looks much like my life before Jesus. The huge trees towering in my life block the Son-light! I allowed trees of ignorance, pride, selfishness, worldly idolatry, shame, self-pity, and a truck load of other things that kept me from receiving the benefits of the Giver of Light. Blocking His light left me dry, thirsty and lifeless; sinking in a pit of depression and unsatisfied with the vast dirt pile that was my life!
Can you relate?
What is growing in your yard?
What kinds of things keep you from seeking Jesus?
Is it fear of not measuring up? Do you think that you are so far out of His reach? Is it years of shame?
If so, let me offer you hope!
The Savior of the World came to die on a tree just for YOU. We just celebrated his birth a few months ago, and soon we will celebrate his Resurrection! Women like you and me…imperfect women…are made beautiful and worthy because of him!
He loved you before you were born and He loves you now.
” You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
Psalm 139:16 -17 (NLT)
He doesn’t care where you have been and what you have done, He already knows anyway.
“I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.”
Psalm 139: 11-12a (NLT)
He wants to give you a life full of joy, peace and happiness.
” I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”
John 10:10 ( MSG)
I don’t know where the tree came from that Jesus died on, maybe it was like mine, growing somewhere blocking the light and preventing growth. However, what happened on that tree brought light forever into our dark and cold world.
That tree saved our souls.
