All throughout December, as we anticipate the celebration of Christ’s birth, we will be opening hearts and homes to you.
Today one of our morning instructors is sharing some of the traditions of her heart and home that keep Christ the focus of Christmas. We pray you enjoy Sara’s open heart and home!
“As I begin to prepare for Christmas, it is easy for me to get wrapped up in how things look and what I feel may be lacking from the decorations in my home. I call on God to help me focus on what is important, His son, the reason we celebrate Christmas! I breathe in, put one ornament on the tree at a time, pausing to remember and reflect on where that ornament came from, the special memory it holds or the relationship it brings to mind.”
“I pray a prayer of thankfulness for the memory and the opportunity to make that memory, and I say a prayer for each person brought to mind as I unwrap ornaments. I ask God to help me slow down and to focus on sharing the love and forgiveness He offers to all.”
“Nativity scenes are very special to me. I have several, one being so small that I can hold all the pieces in my cupped hands. One set consists of two-dimensional ornaments that can hang on a tree. One nativity I have is enclosed in a snow globe, one is inside the C of the word Peace, and one is a beautiful set which has a special spot on my hearth.”
“On Christmas morning, my husband’s parents and my parents come over for a southern breakfast complete with eggs, bacon, and grits. Most importantly, there are always blueberry muffins, made by my daughter and I. The seven of us gather around the small table in my kitchen and give thanks for the most precious gift in this world. Jesus. We praise Him for all He has done and ask Him to continue to bless each one of us.”
We pray this advent season is drawing you near to the heart of Jesus! It brings great joy to our hearts and homes to share time with each of you!
