Looks the same.

Smells the same.

Sounds the same.

Beware!

So much truth is found in the old saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”. How often have I reminded myself of this after falling into the trap of good marketing?Scammed. Taken in.

Insert V8 moment here: palm to forehead!

Maybe a swift kick in my rear!

I know better. Stick with the real deal. Authenticity means something.

During my quiet time with God this morning I read the following verse,

“…Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
2 Cor. 11:14

These words made my heart stop. Truth is found in the word of God. There is only one truth where God is concerned and it comes from the Bible. Thus this statement needs my attention! This is authentic.

Even Satan.

This tells me two things.

  1. Satan is devious!
  2. He’s not the only one!

Satan is devious. His plan is always to undermine God’s work in our hearts. The bible is clear that He roams the earth looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Many understand that God is good and Satan is evil but we may overlook that there are others that disguise themselves.

Even Satan.

If we place verse 14 back in context we find Paul speaking to the Corinthians about

“…false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.”

2 Cor. 11:13

The Lord wants us to be near Him; He deserves all the glory, but there are others disguised to fool us. They want our attention. They want out affections, our devotion. They want glory for themselves. They are full of pride and full of schemes that are meant to destroy.

So what do we do?

We go back to the same scriptures that give the warnings and we prepare for battle!

We stand guard!

1 Peter 5:8 tells us

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy”

We look for Jesus’ example. (Remember Satan was after His heart also.)

Matthew 4:10
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'”

We rest in the promises and trust them to be the only truth.

Colossians 1:13
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves

We put on our armor.

Ephesians 6:11

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Let’s go back to the verse that caused my immediate concern.

“…Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
2 Cor. 11:14

Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. There will be an appeal that will lure us to Him….

Looks the same….

Smells the same….

Sounds the same….

Or does it?

On the surface it will. Satan tried to use what sounded like the very word of God to tempt Jesus in the wilderness. But Jesus knew what was authentic. He identified the lies that were hidden in Satan’s schemes. He saw thru the disguise. His heart and mind were attuned to God. Their relationship was intimate and He was drenched in the truth…Armor on! Satan disguising himself “as an angel of light” and Jesus was not fooled.

He will be appealing. He is out to deceive!

My burden today is for you and me. The very ones that Satan wants to devour.

Believers.

He want’s our hearts because we’re shining light for Christ.

He wants the flames diminished!

Join me in preparing for battle. Seek the truth of the word and ready yourself so we can take down the fiercest of enemies…Satan.
