…Praise Him all creatures, here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

The Doxology.

I learned it from a young age.

I have sung it many times – over many years.

But I learned the definition of it today.

Doxology…a hymn or form of words containing an ascription of praise to God.

We have been studying in the Psalms some this past week. Many of them are songs and many Christian songs can be directly referenced back to the Psalms. If you love music like me, you cannot help but bust out into a song when someone reads them aloud!

But what is behind the song…is it just merely words or is there heart behind it? Do you just reference the words or do you feel the power of God behind them? Are you offering praise?

Read with me Ephesians 3:18-21

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.  19:May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20:Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21: Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

In this passage, Paul is singing a doxology.  Paul is REALLY excited and is giving praise to God! Paul sees that God’s power and God’s love can go well beyond us. He prays in verse 18 that we can have the ability to understand God’s love. Paul wants us to understand the power that comes along with that love.

And then when, God’s love and His power meet in the heart of a believer –  it bursts forth with song! And God gets all the glory….He gets the doxology…in verse 21 “Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

Only when God’s children reach a level of faithfulness and are made complete with all the fullness of God’s love and power – fullness that allows us to put NOTHING in front of Him – does God get the glory. And then He will be glorified forevermore! Our lives become a doxology!

So go out and sing! Go out and praise! Go out and be a doxology!

Rise and shine and give God the glory!
