He came to me quietly. “Do you think some of that voodoo tape would help?” Why yes, yes I do.

Don’t freak out. I am a physical therapist and kinesiotape is a tool we use to assist with pain when warranted. I quietly told him where to place the tape for his groin strain and went on my way. The next day, I received this message “You made a believer out of me!” I guess the tape worked.

A believer.  Google defines a believer as: a person who believes that a specified thing is effective, proper, or desirable. So let’s look closer at this “thing.” Of course, Jesus is so much more than a “thing” but the question prevails….Why do we believe? Why do I believe?

Growing up in church, I knew nothing else. My parents were instrumental in my presence at church activities. But when did I stop being a Christian and become a follower of Christ? I don’t know!

Suzie Eller in her book, “Come With Me” says this:

“Did you know that it’s conceivable to be a believer and still struggle to answer that question? We may understand the concepts of our faith, or at least what we have been told. Perhaps we felt something at one time, or wanted to avoid something else, so the obvious choice was Christianity. Maybe going to church is something we’ve always done, or it makes us feel safe or had brought comfort in a hard time. Perhaps the thought of hell drove a few to their knees. Before we share the answer with anyone else, part of the adventure is to discover it for ourselves”

Even though I cannot pin-point one specific time when I felt that my faith was no longer a habit, I know a few things about how I know that I am a follower of Christ.

What I do know is…..the longer I have walked with Jesus the more I understand and develop such a tender and precious relationship. (1 John 5:13)

What I do know is….. that Romans 8:38-39 have become my life verses.  The more I understand God’s deep, deep love and exactly what He did for me on that cross, the more our relationship deepens.

What I do know is….that even though from the outside it may appear that I have it all together and a “good” life;  I  still need a Savior just as desperately as anyone else. (Psalm 139:1-6)

What I do know is……that the Bible is alive and all about Jesus. When we begin reading His word looking for Jesus in each and every story, it will come to life. (Hebrews 4:12)

What I do know is….when I begin to have faith like a child and stop trying to promote my own agenda that His promises to me become clearer. (Matthew 18:2-4)

See, what I do know is that Jesus loves me (1 John 3:16) because I learned that in a song when I was very young. Throughout my life He has done nothing but love me with an extravagant love, even when I didn’t want Him to. And for that I am eternally grateful.

Jesus has made a believer out of me.

How about you?
