There are two kinds of words that stand out to me in scripture. Well, actually I overlook these stand out words from time to time but I’ve come to recognize that they have great significance. So now I look for them! Take a look with me!
One type of word that stands out to me are what I like to call definitive words. Words that are absolute and do not exclude. They leave no room for misunderstanding.
Words such as:
- always
- forever
- everyone
- anyone
- all
Consider John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Look at the words only, whoever and everlasting. They are definitive. There is no room for negotiation. Their meanings are concrete. God gave his ONLY son. That is very significant because Jesus is God’s only son. It leaves no room for wondering if there was another. Only one, Jesus! God gave Jesus so that WHOEVER believes. Whoever is definitive and leaves out no one. It includes everyone. They is no room for misinterpretation. You are included! Whoever believes receives EVERLASTING life. How long is that? It is eternal! And you don’t have to question the meaning because it is definitive.
Let’s look at one more verse together! Hebrews 13:8
“Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
It’s hard not to put an explanation point behind the definitive word forever!
Of all the things in this world that change, Jesus remains the same FOREVER.
His love is FOREVER!
His grace is FOREVER!
His mercy is FOREVER!
His forgiveness is FOREVER!
His promises are FOREVER!
His finished word on the cross is FOREVER, for WHOEVER believes in God’s ONLY son will have EVERLASTING life!
The next time you are studying a verse look for definitive words. Embrace them and claim them! God is so good that He includes everyone in His love!
Tomorrow I will look at little words with big impact. I hope you come back and look with me!
Saved by His grace forever, Jodie
This was great! Thanks so much- Good to think about this morning- Glad I stopped by from Holley’s place!
Love this!!! I am a word person, and “everlasting” is one of my favorite because of this promise: “I have loved you with an everlasting love, and I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3. Dropping by from Coffee For Your Heart 🙂
Oh Crystal! I love that verse! Thank you for sharing it with us today. I will be marking I my bible! The word unfailing stands out to me in this verse, as well as everlasting. God is always unfailing. I will be making that a one-word prayer for someone who just shared with me their cancer diagnosis. Thank you for stopping by to share coffee. I think I will make a cup and head your way!
What a great idea for reading and studying Bible verses! I’m sure there will be many blessings along the way when these seemingly small words add so much meaning. I’m going to start noting those definitive words!
So neat! I will start looking for the definitive words!
